happy half birthday!

wow, i really cannot believe that our sweet davis is already 6 months old...how does half a year go by so quickly???  it's always an adventure, for sure, but we wouldn't trade one day with our fun, sweet, active, sometimes opinionated (yes, even at this age...) and cranky little boy.  he is such a blessing to everyone in our family. i am trying to soak up every minute i get with him this summer, and still trying to figure out how to convince adam to let me stay home. :)  here's what davis is up to this month:

  • weighs 14 pounds and 8 ounces and is 25 1/2 inches long. yes, he's little, but he's got a strong little body and a BIG personality to make up for it.  his doctor says he's growing just fine.
  • foods we've tried since last month: green peas, squash, avocado, mango, and his favorite: prunes!
  • still lots of rolling from front to back, and he is almost rolling from back to front.  he gets about 80% there or on his side and stops.
  • is a good supported sitter and can sometimes sit for a few seconds without support.
  • likes to sit in his exersaucer for about 20 minutes or so and is learning how to interact with the toys on it.  can bang around and make it play music sometimes.
  • is putting EVERYTHING in his mouth!
  • has almost figured out how to put his paci back in his mouth...not consistent yet.
  • drools so much lately that it is like a water faucet has been turned on to drip.  he always has a bib on.
  • spitting up has gotten much better, and he hardly ever does it much anymore.
  • has a bottom tooth coming in, but it has not cut through his gums yet.  can be fussy sometimes at night, and we think it's probably his teeth bothering him.
  • likes to chew on his nuby teether or strawberry teether that vibrates. also likes to gnaw on a piece of ice that i put in his little mesh snack feeder.
  • loves to be outside and go for walks around the neighborhood.
  • is starting to try out whining if he doesn't get what he wants...we are in trouble!
  • watches everything we put in our mouths when we are eating.
  • gets prune or apple juice, mixed with water, to help keep his bowel movements regular...we're having a little bit of a constipation problem as he eats more and more solid foods. no fun...
  • nurses about 6-8 times per day.
  • sleeps about 6-7 hour stretches at a time, on a good night.
  • goes to bed around 7:30 or 8:00 and will sleep until about 8:00, waking up twice to eat. (on a good night) :)
  • still naps the best in his swing...we are going to work on transitioning to napping in his crib at some times this summer...wish us luck!
  • REALLY notices mattie and likes to reach out and touch her, which usually leads to her licking his hands, which leads to me having to wash them. but, he loves her and i think she is ok with him, too. :)
  • likes to play with soft books that crinkle, squeak, move, etc.
  • pushes up really well when he's on his tummy.
  • has a VERY loud voice and likes to talk to his toys, his paci, or us.  he definitely likes to hear himself.  most frequent noise sounds like "ahhhh".
  • likes to gurgle.
  • is starting to not like to be in his car seat for very long when we go out to eat.
  • loves his glow worm.
  • props his feet up on his stroller like a little man.
  • likes to hear mama sing...finally, somebody appreciates my singing voice! :)
  • prefers to just be in his diaper
  • is starting to "claw" or "scratch" at things as he figures out how his hands move.
  • will sometimes just hold his hand up in front and him and move it around while he's staring.  it's the best to watch him discover new things and try to figure stuff out!
  • likes to pull hair, pinch necks, and grab at glasses on people's faces.
  • still laughs when his daddy tosses him up in the air, or just whenever he's feeling silly.  we also get some really good giggles at night when we are getting ready for bed.
  • sometimes wakes up screaming, not wanting to eat, dry diaper, just wanting to be held....we are working on helping him get back to sleep without letting him cry it out and without rocking him.  by putting a hand on him and standing over his crib, he will usually go back to sleep in about 20 minutes, while crying.  it is rough on all of us, and adam and i will be glad when he is able to put himself back to sleep consistently.
  • buries his head into someone's shoulder when he is getting tired. he has also started laying his head down on shoulders on purpose, and i love it...so sweet!
  • his eyes are still a grayish color around the outside and light brown around the pupil.  it will be interesting to see what color they turn out to be.

that's all for now! more davis adventures coming soon...
